New York (May 11, 2005)— Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart were just some of the names present at New York Women in Communications’ (NYWICI) 35th Annual Matrix Awards, honoring eight "women who change the world." All told, 1400 attendees turned out for the sold-out event at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York on April 11, 2005.

The Kellen Company, the premier international association management company, organized and managed the event. Holly Koenig, a Vice President at Kellen and Executive Director of New York Women in Communications, and her New York City staff, oversaw all logistics, including financial administration, registration, on-site management, direct mailings, journal production and VIP handling.

This year’s Matrix Award winners included Amy Gross (Magazines), Editor-in-Chief, O, The Oprah Magazine; Christiane Amanpour (Broadcasting), CNN’s Chief International Correspondent based in London; and Edie Falco (Arts & Entertainment), star of television, stage and film and best known as Carmela Soprano on The Sopranos. Senator Clinton and Oprah Winfrey were presenters at the event, hosted by The New Times Company. In addition, $100,000 in scholarships was given to 15 exceptional female graduate and undergraduate students studying to be future leaders in communications.

"Having three of the biggest names in the country in one room — Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and Martha Stewart — was extremely challenging," said Koenig. "Security was a major issue and keeping the paparazzi out was difficult. But staff worked very closely with the volunteer leaders to turn out the best Matrix ever."
