Retiring Kellen Executive Honored with New Annual Award
ATLANTA, GA (April 8, 2011) - A long-time Kellen Company executive has been recognized for achievement by representatives of the international low-calorie food and beverage industry with a new award named in her honor.
Kellen Company Vice President Lyn Nabors has spent 30 years advocating on behalf of the Calorie Control Council (CCC), a non-profit association representing manufacturers and suppliers of low-calorie, sugar-free and reduced sugar foods and beverages. When members of the Council discovered she planned to retire on March 31, 2011, they lobbied to create the Lyn Nabors Award for Outstanding Achievement. The award, which commemorates service to the association and the industry, was presented to Nabors at the organization's recent annual meeting.
"For the past three decades, Lyn has effectively communicated important information on behalf of the light product industry to millions of health professionals, regulators, consumers and the media," said Dr. Tom Vollmuth, outgoing chair of CCC. "She has helped this organization become a valuable source of information in the U.S. and abroad. Thanks to her guidance, the Council will continue to be an industry leader and promote low-calorie and reduced calorie ingredients and the products that contain them."
Nabors currently serves as President of the Council. When she steps down next month, Eric Allen, a Kellen Company Vice President and 18-year-veteran of the association management industry, will take over her Council duties.
Nabors is editor of three editions of Alternative Sweeteners - a comprehensive text book providing fundamental scientific and technical information on a broad range of sweeteners - with a fourth edition scheduled for publication this September. She also has authored a number of book chapters and journal articles on low-calorie foods and beverages, sweeteners and fat replacers. She spearheads the Council's activities regarding health, fitness and weight management, including the long-standing consumer campaigns "Calories Still Count" and "Lighten Up & Get Moving." A professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists, Nabors served as an IFT Scientific Lecturer from 1996 to 1998.
In addition to her work with the Council, Nabors also serves as President of the International Food Additives Council (IFAC), an association comprised of producers of high purity substances used worldwide as food ingredients.
Despite retirement, Nabors plans to continue serving Kellen Company in a consulting capacity for both associations.
