Kellen Company Appoints Joan Cear as Vice President of Communications

Public Relations Industry Veteran to Join Kellen Communications

NEW YORK (March 4, 2011) – Kellen Company, a leading global professional services company, announced today that public relations industry veteran and longtime nonprofit advisor Joan Cear will join the New York office as vice president of communications.  Cear has over 20 years of experience leading corporate and nonprofit practices as well as a proven track record in business development and staff management.

In her new role, Cear will lead client and staff management of Kellen Communications in New York.  She will also oversee coordination of the firm’s domestic and international communications functions.

“We are thrilled to have Joan join our team,” said Peter Rush, Kellen Company chief executive officer.  “She brings tremendous leadership and depth of experience across a wide range of industry sectors, as well as superior management skills.  We look forward to her many contributions as Kellen Communications continues its course of growth.”

Previously, Cear served as managing director at New York City public relations agency G.S. Schwartz & Co., Inc., where she led the consumer practice for both new business development and client management functions for over a decade.  In this role, she successfully implemented public relations, social media and integrated marketing programs that balanced creativity with client budgets to achieve dramatic results.

Prior to her tenure at G.S. Schwartz & Co., Inc., Cear was president and owner of New York public relations firm The Wachsman Cear Group and a senior media representative for the Long Island Lighting Company.

She currently serves as the pro bono president of New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) Foundation, which is the charitable arm of NYWICI, the organization responsible for the annual Matrix Awards Luncheon.  She has been an active member of NYWICI for years, having also served as the vice president of student affairs and head of strategic planning.  In addition, she serves as a PR advisor to Angel Flight Northeast and is a member of the board of trustees of Education Housing Services and former board member of Make-A-Wish Foundations of Metro New York, Peninsula Counseling Center and America Scores-New York.

Cear holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from SUNY Oswego, from which she graduated magna cum laude.
