Kellen Company's Michael Cummings Executes New York Society of Association Executives "Communications Institute"
More than 50 NYC-area executives attended conference on communications tactics for associations
New York (June 11, 2010) —In the current economic climate, it’s not only corporations who have had to make cuts and re-think the way they operate, associations are dealing with similar financial issues. The New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) recently held a “Communications Institute” to impart knowledge, provoke thought and provide solutions to association executives.
Michael Cummings, Head of Business Development at Kellen Company and chair of NYSAE’s education committee spearheaded the planning and execution of the event, providing attendees with a day of education and networking, as well as the new and creative tools necessary to approach and solve the problem of efficient and clear communications with diverse stakeholders.
“In these troublesome times, associations must do all they can to engage their members and volunteers,” said Cummings. “This was an essential and informative event for anyone working in the association or non-profit world.”
The half day conference featured panelists and speakers from both the association and corporate world, including American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Red Cross in Greater New York and Littler Mendelson. Topics discussed included how to better communicate better, spotting the warning signs of a potential crisis, navigating mergers and how to lead with transparency.
“The Communications Institute was an extremely valuable session for me to attend,” said Jake Lynn, Public Affairs Director for the American Psychoanalytic Association. “I left with a higher level of knowledge in the areas of social media, direct marketing and better ways to communicate overall with our membership.”
