Introduction
This Manual is made available to Association members to provide
a basic explanation of U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations for the labeling of foods pursuant to the
Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, including the amendments made by the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act, and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act.
The Manual was prepared by The Kellen Company under
the direction of Lyn O'Brien Nabors and Pam Chumley with the assistance of legal
counsel, Covington & Burling. The Manual includes a summary of the most significant
regulations and a link to the full text of those regulations which have been
adopted as of May 1, 2006. The Manual will be revised as additional regulations
are issued.
Summaries and illustrations in this Manual are merely intended to
point out the highlights of the regulations. Members of the
Association should feel free to consult headquarters on specific
labeling problems, but must consult with their own legal counsel
to be assured that their specific packages and labels are in
compliance with the applicable laws and regulations at both
federal and state levels.
The
Kellen Company Food Labeling Manual is provided as a service to Kellen Company-managed
